The most fun I ever had exercising

Hayley Reynolds ran a successful SynchroFitness taster class series for Abingdon Swimming Club and will be running regular classes from September. Find out what her class thought and how it came about.

“SynchroFitness was the most fun I have ever had exercising!”

Hayley says “I have been teaching swimming since 1997 and over the years I have taught a wide range of ages and abilities. Since 2010 I have been teaching with Abingdon Swimming Club, a ‘learn to swim’ club rather than a competitive swimming club. Children work towards the STA International Learn to Swim Programme and once they have completed the higher awards some move onto RLSS lifesaving awards; Rookie Lifeguard and Survive and Save.

Many children complete the lifesaving awards but still want to continue coming along to sessions with the club to continue swimming and maintain their fitness. It has been hard finding alternatives to offer to these children. A couple of years ago I started a ‘swimming for fitness’ session where they would swim in a lane and follow a different workout each week. This was initially quite popular but still wasn’t quite right for all children.

When I heard about SynchroFitness I felt this could be the answer for the older children in the club and could also offer something to adults as well. I did my SynchroFitness Instructors course in April 2016 and was immediately hooked! I ran a 4 week SynchroFitness taster for Abingdon Swimming Club in June 2016. A total of 10 people (6 adults & 4 over 12’s) signed up for the course and they all really enjoyed it.”

Here’s what Hayley’s class said about SynchroFitness:

“I would have never signed up for SynchroFitness if it wasn’t for a friend of mine running them. I’ve always liked swimming and always wanted to do more but kind of never got around to it. I had no idea what SynchroFitness was and even with my friend explaining it I couldn’t really imagine it. The first session I did nearly killed me because we spent the whole hour in the deep water and had to tread water the entire time. By the second session I was fine though and I found the mix of exercise and music really good. Because you need to follow a “dance” routine in the water you are so focussed on the moves that you tend to forget about the exercise bit – or at least that’s what it felt like for me.”

Hayley will be running more sessions when the club starts again after the summer holidays on Tuesdays from 7.30-8.30pm at OLA Swimming Pool, Radley Road, Abingdon.
